In the TED Talk "Are We in Control of our Decisions?" by Dan Ariely provided some very interesting insight on our decisions.
I think that idea that our choices is made due to how they are presented. Comparisons are a big influence on what we choose. Between the nice brand or the cheaper off=brand is an example. Most would choose the off-brand but what if it was really crapy? It is in our nature to do things like this but it can often hinder us. Thinking things through can help us go against our nature.
Dan goes through many illusions in his TED Talk and they all blow my mind. Perception can hinder your thought process and all his illusions shows us that. I thought that was very interesting.
At first I wondered how this Talk fit into our tragedy theme. But then I realized that decisions can hinder your life...in some cases. Take Oedipus for example. He made the decision to avoid his fate and the decision bit him in the butt. His fate may have been "pre-decided" for him. Hmmmmmmm
