What were the main ideas we learned this week?
This week we continued down the path of learning about tragedy. The Poem of the Week, the TED Talk, and Antigone are some examples of how we furthered our learning of this genre.
I really liked the Poem of the Week this week and was kind of upset that we aren't going to respond to it. Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy is about how you can be a good human being and have wonderful qualities that make you unique whether they are physical or not, but society will push you to change who you are in order to fit in. What I mean by that is that you can be you, but society will push you to be their "barbie doll", their idea of perfect, and this can kill the real you. I really like discussing things like this because I am well informed and passionate about it. My PoW would have been killer.
The TED Talk really made me think about the decisions I make. I've already discussed what I thought about it in this blog post.
Antigone really played into the whole tragedy thing. I enjoyed this more than I liked Oedipus Rex. Antigone was a way more interesting character and there was so much sass. I will go deeper into this in my tragedy blog post, so I don't want to spoil ya!
This week was a good one I think. See y'all next week!
